Do you think new jack swing ruined R&B?

I prefer 1980's R&B like The gap band,Stepahanie Mills that house style.90's R&B was ghetto like adoptinghip hop style and I know music always changes and evolves but I love soul music.Neo soul is still being made today but it isn't popular but when do you think R&B went downhill?
