Why do some cat lovers over exaggerate their love for cats?

Don't get me wrong, I love cats, I have to rescued cats and have been around cats all my life, but some people just take it to far. I have heard things like "I am allergic to cats but I have 4 of them and my allergies have cured" or "I have asthma, but I don't care if I get sick, I love my cats" or "my kid has asthma, but I'm not giving away my cat, with time his asthma will get better" I recently fot into an argument with a friend because I told her she shouldn't let her cat in her new born's room without supervision, she almost hit me! she told me "people like you are the reason why some think cats are bad" and walked away all mad. Isn't this too much???
